Description The Lead Technicians work closely with the practice manager to ensure policies and procedures are followed within the clinic. They aid in training and minor HR issues. They help with inventory management. Ensure Controlled Drug log is up to date at all times. Perform other technician duties as described below. Prepare cats and dogs for surgery. Answer questions from pet owners during check in and check out. Watch animals through surgery and recovery. Perform standard vet tech duties as seen fit by the Veterinarian, Site Supervisor, and Clinic Manager. Communicate with customers via the phone and in person about drugs, anesthesia, vaccinations, surgery related issues, post op instructions Prep, monitor, and move patients throughout the surgical workflow with a huge emphasis on safety of the staff and patients. Properly handle animals at all times during movements various areas and while restraining animals. Basic palpation Shaving, sterilizing, expressing bladders, intubation for preparation for surgery Maintain proper medical records which include but are not limited to: surgical records, prescriptions, drug logs, etc. Monitor recovering animals Clean kennels by following Texas Litter Control’s cleaning standards Make sterile surgical packs Monitor equipment and report problems to the Executive Director as they are detected Laundry Mopping Maintain proper stock of supplies in all areas of the clinic Perform other duties as assigned Requirements SKILLS REQUIREMENTS Basic Computer Skills Intermediate mathematical skills Advanced organization skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or Equivalent Customer Service Experience LVT Preferred WORKING CONDITIONS Must be flexible and willing to work overtime as required Regular and predictable attendance is required Moderate noise / animal kennel atmosphere PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the duties of this job. Regularly required to talk, hear and use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, calculator and telephone. The ability to move about to coordinate work within observation rooms. The ability to stand for long periods of time and in excess of 5 hours. Frequent bending, stooping, and crouching Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of radiation. While performing the duties of this job, employees will frequently handle urine, vomit, and feces from cats, dogs, and rabbits. These can contain parasites contagious to humans. Employees are expected to wear proper protective clothing, gloves, and masks as needed.
