Description Lion Country Safari is looking to add a full-time licensed Lead Veterinary Technician to the dynamic hospital team. Located in Loxahatchee, Florida, just west of West Palm Beach, Lion Country Safari is a diverse zoological park, which is home to over 600 animals. The park boasts a 320-acre preserve in which numerous species, including chimpanzees, non-domestic hoofstock, lions, and rhinos roam freely in spacious habitats, which provides ample opportunity for field immobilization. Additionally, a variety of avian species, small ruminants, and reptiles are displayed and provide close-up, interactive experiences for visitors. General Job Description Under Veterinary supervision the Lead Veterinary Technician’s duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Assist the Veterinarians in providing health care for the entire animal collection. This assistance includes, but is not limited to, the care of hospitalized patients, record keeping, purchasing, inventory, lab work, maintaining equipment, preparing medications, and cleaning. Assist in surgical and necropsy procedures, as well as animal capture as per written protocol. Exhibit leadership qualities such as effective time management, a collaborative mindset, and good communication skills. Assist the Hospital Manager with the oversight, training, and mentorship of the veterinary technician team, as well as assist with delegating tasks and optimization of operational flow. Assist the hospital manager in ensuring the hospital is compliant with AZA, USDA, OSHA, and other federal and local regulations. Requirements Minimum Qualifications Certification in veterinary technology required Five years’ experience as a veterinary technician in a zoological facility required Valid driver’s license Special Qualifications Willingness to work overtime and be available for emergency work. Must be able to work weekends and holidays. Willingness to work outdoors in the heat, be able to physically lift heavy objects (up to 70 lbs) Understands the physical and health related risks inherent to working with wildlife and zoo animals. Able to work as a member of a team as well as individually with minimal supervision. Must exhibit excellent work ethic, positive attitude, and professionalism Experience with computed tomography is a plus.
