Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

The primary role of a visual designer at Gemic is to help our consultants share their learnings and proposed solutions through visualising evidence, portraying the lives of research participants, and building explanatory models and frameworks that distill our learnings into memorable concepts and ideas.
The nature of our work often calls for outputs and deliverables that clearly articulate what is typically unspoken or unseen; things like social behaviour, belief systems, and relationships with technology. These intangibles shape human experience but often lack a vocabulary and voice.
When not actively working to communicate our work, you will help build and execute the strategy of the Gemic brand. As our work touches on many new digital platforms, we aim to build a coherent system that works across them all while maintaining consistency and quality. You will also champion design internally and develop a strong design culture within the company.

We’re looking for an experienced designer who can:

  • Provide consistent design leadership company-wide keeping our brand on point
  • Bring a variety of design skills to continually evolve our offerings but keep our image aligned across all deliverables
  • Mentor junior designers
  • Manage external design resources (e.g. freelancers, third party vendors)

The ideal candidate would:

  • Have a general orientation to work that is driving a set of solutions without constant oversight
  • Be the owner of design perspectives but adept at “client services” mindset when collaborating with colleagues
  • Drive brand strategy at Gemic but also the design visuals for our products
  • Set the tone (plan and execute) directly through their own production
  • Do the strategic work as an active practitioner of design deliverables

The role will be based in our Berlin office and serving a global function to the wider company. Please note this is NOT intended as a remote position and you must be located in Berlin (or willing to relocate to Berlin and obtain legal work authorization).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Developing the visual communication of client-facing deliverables: Information design and architecture, data visualisation, and graphic presentation of various learnings, analysis and solutions
  • Recommending the right deliverable mediums (digital and physical experiences) and presenting creative strategies and solutions to internal teams and clients
  • Executing deliverable formats that enrich strategists’ qualitative and quantitative findings—such as websites, videos, graphical presentations, illustrations and GenAI artwork
  • Quick ideation and prototyping with multidisciplinary teams
  • Visual systems development for the Gemic brand
  • Staying updated on visual design trends, tools and techniques, and seeking opportunities to apply these on Gemic’s works
  • Managing freelancer network to optimize the design resource system for more effective staffing
  • Oversight of internal design team and freelancers to ensure we deliver excellent quality designs
  • Mentoring the development of the internal design team and sharpening skills of consultants
  • Acting as owner of the Gemic brand within the company
