Primary purpose of position As a leading hand you will support the Supervisors in providing additional frontline leadership by supporting and guiding a team of professionals in their day-to-day tasks. You will be motivational and lead by example while you and your team maintain the Port’s installations, floating, static, heavy and light plant and equipment to ensure that they can all be operated safely and efficiently giving a positive return on capital investment. You will encourage and promote a positive safety culture by exemplifying high safety ethics and embracing the Port’s Zero Harm philosophy. Annual Salary: $96,295 (excluding Super) Why choose the Port | Port of Townsville [https://www.townsville-port.com.au/corporate/working-with-us/why-choose-the-port/] employee_value_proposition_final.pdf [https://s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/os-data-2/townsville-port-2/bundle16/employee_value_proposition_final.pdf]   Position specific responsibilities • Direct and monitor maintenance teams in the safe and timely completion of allocated tasks • Support Supervisors in the allocation of work and communication of work priorities and standards to maintenance teams • Assist Supervisors in the development and implementation of short-term work schedules including the current week and the following week • Actively demonstrate Safety Leadership and facilitate the integration of the foundation tools and Safety Culture initiative within the team to establish an interdependent culture • Assist in development of budget estimates of proposed projects for inclusion in the maintenance and capital works program • Participate in and advise Maintenance Planners/Schedulers in the continuous improvement of preparation and required frequency of preventative maintenance schedules for the Port’s assets • Participate in training to attain and/or retain required competencies/qualifications relevant to the work environment, safety and leadership • Participate in port emergency responses as directed to assist with successful restoration of the Port back to an operating capacity in the event of an emergency • Take action to rectify and/or report any situation/incident that has resulted or could result in a non-conformance or below standard incident • Contribute to the Port’s strategic plans including the Statement of Corporate Intent, Corporate Plan and Port Vision 2050 • Ensure appropriate health and safety, environmental management, quality and information security practices are implemented for all works to comply with the Port’s policies and relevant legislation • Comply with all relevant legislation, codes of practice and standards. • Promote a Zero Harm culture and continual improvement in our Health and Safety management and performance. • Any other duties commensurate with level and accountabilities, or as directed by leadership. Essential criteria Mandatory requirements/qualifications/tickets/licences: • Current C Class Driver’s Licence • Operate a Gantry or Overhead Crane Ticket • Construction Induction (White Card) • Pre-employment Medical - Functional 20kg.   Skills and experience: • Previous experience in maintaining infrastructure, plant and equipment including preventative maintenance programs, preferably in a marine environment • Demonstrated experience with maintenance processes, work planning, supervision of trades and support staff • Sound knowledge of work programming, contract and estimating procedures • Demonstrated experience in project administration and/or contractor supervision, cost estimating and budgeting • Excellent ability to effectively allocate work and work priorities to ensure that all work is completed to specification and quality standards • Strong leadership skills to effectively manage team performance • Sound knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety including hazard and risk management together with Environmental Acts and Regulations and Quality Systems • Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering plans and manuals • High level of problem solving and organisation skills • Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills. Software/Systems skills: • General computer skills in Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) • High level of experience in maintenance management software system • Previous experience in maintenance management software system. Highly desirable/ability to obtain criteria Candidates will need to have, or have the ability to obtain the following qualifications/tickets/licences: • Dogger – DG Class High Risk Work Licence (required within 6 - 12 months) • Basic Rigging – RB Class High Risk Work Licence (required within 6 - 12 months) • Provide First Aid (required within 3 - 6 months) • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (required within 3 - 6 months) • Shipboard Safety Skill Set (required within 3 months) • Current Queensland MR class Driver Licence (required within 6 months) • Issue Work Permits (required within 3 months) • Maritime Security Identification Card (required within 3 months) • Use Basic Equipment for Oil Spill Response (subject to AMSA/MSQ training schedule) • Operate Elevated Work Platforms up to 11m Ticket (required within 3 - 6 months)  • Isolate and Access Plant (required within 3 months) • Work Safely at Heights Ticket (required within 3 months) • Supervise Work in Confined Spaces Ticket (required within 3 - 6 months) • Recreational Marine Drivers Licence (required within 3 - 6 months) • Short Range Operator Certificate of proficiency in radio telecommunications (required within 6 - 12 months) • Forklift Truck – LF High Risk Work Licence (required within 3 - 6 months) • VOC – Overhead bridging Crane Maintenance Workshop (required within 3 months) • Working in Proximity to Traffic Awareness Part 1 (required within 3 months) • Working in Proximity to Traffic Awareness Part 2 (required within 6 - 12 months).   The following are not mandatory but are highly desirable: • Certificate III in any Trade Discipline • Conduct Backhoe/Loader Operations Ticket • Non-slewing Mobile Crane (greater than 3 tonnes) - CN Class High Risk Work Licence • Slewing Mobile Crane (up to 100 tonnes) - C1 Class High Risk Work Licence.  
Responsibilities
