Responsibilities
  • Assist and support the Works Overseer in supervising all activities of the Works Sundry Team to ensure service standards, objectives and priorities are met;
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of the following but limited to Culverts, signs, table drains, corridor clearing, footpaths, kerb and Guttering, fencing, guidepost and roadside furniture;
  • Assist the Works Overseer by providing input to team work plans and schedules and in the allocation of duties to achieve work schedules;
  • Ensure engineering plans, traffic control plans, safety measures and written directions are all understood and complied with;
  • Assist with development and implementation of appropriate systems to monitor and control the effectiveness and efficiency of teams and equipment performance;
  • Carry out minor road patching repairs and line marking when required;
  • Supervise the Sundry Team in the construction of quality infrastructure services in accordance with agreed service levels;
  • Ensure that Council plant and equipment is operated as required, in accordance with licenses held;
  • Ensure the requirements and objectives of the Council Works Sundry Team are met by displaying effective supervision of staff and resources;
  • Ensure co-operation and assistance of other employees by carrying out tasks in a supportive and harmonious manner;
  • Ensure all staff are properly directed and supervised to maintain safety, efficiency and productivity. Refer any grievance, disciplinary matter or issue outside the incumbent’s level of responsibility to the Works Overseer;
  • Regularly check that suitable materials have been ordered and delivered prior to the commencement of any works;
  • Assist in the evaluation of services and materials required for use to ascertain most advantageous purchases and needs;
  • Carry out inspections and locate any public utilities, services, trees, obstacles, fences and the like;
  • Perform Traffic Control Management duties as required and ensure that necessary temporary warning signs are in place and visible in accordance with Traffic Control Plans prior to commencement of works;
  • Operate all plant, tools, including a chainsaw, implements or equipment in a safe and effective manner;
  • Ensure the servicing and tidiness of Council plant and equipment and the timely reporting of any defects;
  • Accurately complete documentation associated with plant and equipment operation including a pre-start safety checklist;
  • Ensure all staff are punctual at all times including morning tea, lunch and end of day;
  • Accurately record data on timesheets, plant sheets and daily running sheets;
  • Review and sign all timesheets for staff under your supervision;
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, with appropriate protective clothing;
  • Be available to participate in Councils on call roster
