The opportunity We're looking for an experienced Leading Hand – Construction to join the Seaview Thermal Dryer Project in Lower Hutt. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll coordinate crews and subcontractors across a diverse range of civil, structural, mechanical, piping and construction activities. You'll be the link between site supervision and the workforce, helping ensure work is delivered safely, efficiently and right first time. What you'll do * Lead daily site activities and coordinate construction crews * Manage subcontractors and ensure safe, productive work fronts * Allocate tasks, monitor progress and maintain quality standards * Review plans, drawings and work packs to support efficient delivery * Coordinate materials, plant and equipment to keep works moving * Drive a strong Zero Harm culture through toolbox talks and safety leadership * Identify and resolve site issues before they impact delivery * Work closely with supervisors, engineers and project teams to achieve key milestones What we offer * Opportunity to work on a major wastewater infrastructure project * Stable, long-term project environment * Supportive team culture focused on safety and delivery excellence * Suite of Downer benefits, including health and wellness initiatives * Career development opportunities within a leading infrastructure organisation What we're looking for * 7+ years' experience in industrial, water, infrastructure or heavy construction projects * Previous experience as a Leading Hand, Foreman or Supervisor * Strong experience coordinating multiple trades and subcontractors * Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications * Sound knowledge of construction sequencing, permits, lifting operations and quality requirements * Proven leadership, communication and problem-solving skills * Commitment to Zero Harm and safe work practices About the team Downer's Energy & Utilities business unit is an integrated trans-Tasman team, providing services and solutions that connect communities to essential networks and infrastructure.
