In this role, you will be challenged to work every day on some of the most advanced ports and marine projects. You will be exposed to projects in North America working with colleagues across the globe who are highly skilled and deliver innovative solutions. The team delivers advanced structural engineering and coastal engineering for waterfront structures.
We are looking for a Leading Marine Structural Engineer specialized in structural design of marine structures to join our highly skilled team of specialists that provides detailed engineering and project management on numerous marine infrastructure and waterfront structures projects. Your primary tasks will be to provide technical knowledge and leadership on projects, support the project manager with project delivery on large multi-disciplinary projects or be the project manager on smaller-scale projects, and support overall business development efforts.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Act as Technical Lead on marine infrastructure projects, overseeing their delivery to ensure they are completed to the required quality standards and on the agreed time and budget.
  • Perform marine structural engineering work for all design phases, including concept, basic, and detailed engineering for different types of projects (inspection and maintenance, repair, expansion, new installations, and construction, etc.)
  • Conduct field work, site inspections, and provide engineering support during construction.
  • Perform Engineer of Record duties as required.
  • Prepare proposals, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates for engineering projects
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary groups within COWI to develop and deliver integrated projects.
  • Maintain effective relationships with key clients to support growth.
  • Represent COWI in external settings, such as technical committees, conferences, seminars, professional bodies, and business groups, as they pertain to marine infrastructure projects.
  • Mentor others on the team.

On top of that, you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil or Structural Engineering, with a minimum of 12 years of related experience with waterfront structures and structural design
  • A Professional Engineer License (P.Eng.) in British Columbia, or can obtain
  • Effective delivery of marine structural projects for public and private clients
  • Knowledge & experience with Canadian codes for steel and concrete design, and familiarity with international marine codes and standards
  • Proficiency with structural engineering software (experience with BIM software or workflows would be considered an asset)
  • Project management and proposal writing experience
  • Be self-motivated, capable of managing change, and able to handle multiple tasks in a shifting environment
  • Be able to work with staff located remotely around the world.
