LEAK DETECTION HELPER Baltimore, MD JOB SUMMARY American Leak Detection of Maryland is seeking a motivated and dependable individual to join our team as a Leak Detection Helper. This is a full-time, summer field position assisting experienced leak detection technicians with residential, commercial, municipal, and pool leak detection work. This role is designed for someone who enjoys hands-on work, problem solving, working outdoors, and learning specialized technology used to locate hidden water leaks. No prior leak detection experience is required. We provide paid training in the equipment, methods, and field procedures used by American Leak Detection. The right candidate will be mechanically inclined, reliable, professional with customers, and interested in building a long-term career in a specialized trade. Helpers will work directly with experienced technicians and learn how to identify the cause and location of hidden leaks without unnecessary damage to property. GREAT CANDIDATES ARE LIKELY TO BE * Mechanically inclined and comfortable using tools and equipment * Interested in learning electronic leak detection technology * Dependable, punctual, and ready to work * Comfortable working outdoors in different weather conditions * Comfortable working in homes, businesses, mechanical rooms, crawlspaces, yards, pools, and utility areas * Able to follow instructions and learn from experienced technicians * Detail-oriented and observant * Able to stay patient while troubleshooting difficult leak situations * Comfortable using smartphones, tablets, basic apps, and field-service software * Professional, polite, and respectful around customers * Able to perform physical labor throughout the workday * Interested in advancing into an independent technician role IN THIS JOB, YOU’LL BE ASKED TO * Assist lead technicians on water leak detection jobs * Help locate hidden leaks on residential and commercial properties * Assist with pool and spa leak detection * Assist with water-line, sewer-line, and underground utility locating * Help set up and operate specialized leak detection equipment * Learn to use acoustic listening equipment, ground microphones, pressure testing equipment, line-locating equipment, infrared cameras, drain cameras, and related technology * Help prepare job sites before testing begins * Carry, clean, organize, and maintain tools and equipment * Assist with digging, access work, and minor repair preparation when needed * Help protect customers’ property and keep job sites clean * Take job-site photos and assist with gathering information for technician reports * Communicate clearly with technicians, office staff, management, and customers * Follow company safety procedures and field-service standards * Ride with and assist experienced technicians while learning the trade * Develop the skills needed to eventually perform leak detection work independently DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS * Previous experience in construction, maintenance, utilities, restoration, pools, irrigation, landscaping, mechanical work, or plumbing is helpful but not required * Experience using hand tools and power tools is preferred * Strong work ethic and willingness to learn * Good listening skills and ability to follow detailed instructions * Ability to work well with a lead technician * Good problem-solving skills * Professional appearance and attitude * Ability to provide courteous customer service * Current driver’s license with a good driving record * Basic smartphone and computer skills * Ability to create or assist with simple written notes and job documentation * Ability to swim is preferred * Ability to perform physical work and lift or move up to 100 pounds with assistance when appropriate EDUCATION * High school diploma or equivalent preferred * Trade school, mechanical, construction, utility, or technical coursework is a plus * Veterans from all branches of the military are highly desired and encouraged to apply A LITTLE ABOUT OUR COMPANY AND TEAM Founded over 40 years ago, American Leak Detection has become the world leader in the accurate, non-destructive detection of hidden water, sewer, gas, and swimming pool leaks.
