Description

Chemical and process engineers are uniquely placed to contribute to the delivery of a sustainable future for us all. The world’s ambition to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) needs chemical engineers. Leading the practical application of new and emerging technologies, chemical engineers play a vital role in addressing the energy transition towards a net zero future, the need for sustainable food and water supplies, and the provision of global healthcare solutions.

USE MEMBER KNOWLEDGE TO IMPACT THE MAJOR CHALLENGES FACING SOCIETY

  • By supporting development and delivery of specific activities in line with business priorities and enhance the experience of members and volunteers, you will gain transferrable skills in professional communication and managing parallel work streams and time-sensitive activities.

ENABLE MEMBERS TO DEVELOP KNOWLEDGE RESOURCES THAT SUPPORT AN ACTIVE, INCLUSIVE AND ENGAGED MEMBERSHIP

  • By supporting members in developing relevant resources for other members and external customers, you will broaden your understanding of how chemical engineers contribute to engineering a sustainable world and the breadth of their activity.
  • By engaging with IChemE volunteers from IChemE’s technical groups, you will build a network of chemical engineers in a very diverse range of sectors. You will also develop transferrable skills in engaging professionally and collaborating constructively with chemical engineers from a wide range of backgrounds and experience.

ENHANCE THE VALUE TO MEMBERS OF EXISTING KNOWLEDGE RESOURCES

  • You will work on projects to develop and present chemical engineering knowledge in new formats and for new audiences. This might include preparing knowledge resources in short video formats for use with younger audiences, or cataloguing existing video-based knowledge resources with the help of AI. This work will advance your knowledge and skills in using a variety of communication tools, AI, your ability to work with detail, and your organising capabilities.
In addition to duties and responsibilities listed above, the employee may be required to perform other duties assigned by their line manager from time to time.
IChemE is an international membership organisation and some activities take place outside of normal working hours. The job holder must be willing to attend and participate in such activities and associated travel. Additionally, the job holder will be required to liaise with colleagues located in different time zones on an ad hoc basis to meet the needs of the business.
The role has no budgetary or line management responsibilities and no targets for income generation or membership retention, however, high quality Learned Society activity may provide the opportunity for IChemE to develop activity that will lead to revenue generation. It will also play a key role in supporting the Learned Society Committee and activity that delivers against selected UN Sustainable Development Goals.
