FUNCTIONAL SKILLS DELIVERY

  • Oversee and support the planning and delivery of Functional Skills English and Maths programmes.
  • Ensure curriculum approaches are contextualised to work environments and inclusive of diverse learner needs.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and subject expertise to tutors embedding Functional Skills within vocational delivery.

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

Expertise and qualifications in Functional Skills delivery and ALS. (essential)
Experience supporting and upskilling tutors to deliver embedded Functional Skills (essential)
Previous experience supporting teams to improve Functional Skills outcomes. (desirable)
Experience of engaging with Ofsted, awarding bodies, or ESFA audits (desirable)
Knowledge of ILR data, Power BI, or other reporting tools. (desirable)

Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

The Functional Skills & ALS Lead plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effective delivery and continuous improvement of Functional Skills (English & Maths) and Additional Learning Support (ALS).

This is a hands-on role responsible for:

  • Managing the Functional Skills team and leading the organisation’s ALS provision.
  • Line managing the Functional Skills delivery team, setting clear expectations, providing coaching, and ensuring consistency of delivery.
  • Acting as the ALS subject matter expert, personally writing, reviewing, and updating ALS plans to ensure tailored, compliant, and effective support.
  • Providing regular MI reports on Functional Skills, ALS, attendance, and learner outcomes.
  • Monitoring attendance and protecting organisational revenue by identifying and mitigating risks of FS-related withdrawals.
  • Ensuring ALS assessments are consistently converted into active support plans and monitored for impact.
  • Supporting the wider tutor team to deliver an embedded Functional Skills curriculum across vocational programmes.
