LEARNING CO-ORDINATOR

Salary: G11, £37,938 per annum pro rata, actual salary £34,633 per annum.
(pay award pending 3.2%)
Hours: 37 hours per week, term time plus an additional 2 weeks during term breaks.
Cotham School is seeking to appoint a permanent Learning Co-ordinator. The role is a Head of Year post and will take responsibility for the academic, personal and social achievement, progression and attainment and well-being of a specific year group of students.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Learning Co-ordinator

2) ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • To collate, create, agree and support the achievement of designated student progress targets for the year group and to make a measurable contribution to whole school targets, strategically plan for their achievement and evaluate progress through tracking students’ attainment.
  • To lead the creation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Year Team improvement plans ensuring they make a significant contribution to the whole school improvement plan and the attainment of its targets.
  • To provide regular feedback to staff in a way that recognises good practice resulting in a tangible impact in student learning.
  • To take the lead role in planning a unified tutor programme that shows progression and continuity and is appropriate to the Year Group.
  • To actively implement and promote the school’s inclusion policies to ensure equality of opportunity for every student in order that they achieve their full potential.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • To take a proactive role in Safeguarding
  • To undertake any training commensurate with the post.
  • To hold a first aid certificate and undertake first aid training as required by the school and to act as First Aider as required
  • To assist in ensuring the safe conduct of students in the department.
  • To participate in the performance and development review process, taking personal responsibility for identification of learning, development and training opportunities in discussion with line manager.
  • To comply with individual responsibilities, in accordance with the role, for health and safety in the workplace. So far as reasonably practicable, the postholder must ensure that safe working practices are adopted by employees, and in premises / work areas for which the postholder is responsible, to maintain a safe working environment for employees and service users. These are defined in the Corporate Health, Safety and Welfare policy, departmental policies and codes of practice.
  • Ensure that all duties and services provided are in accordance with the School’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • Provide lunchtime supervision and carrying out supervisory duties in accordance with published rotas.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience of working as part of a team with designated responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of secondary schools and the education system
  • The ability to identify potential barriers to learning and ensure strategies are implemented in order to overcome these barriers.
  • Competency in terms of qualifications or life skills equivalent to at least NVQ level 3.
  • A proven track record of working with young people aged 11 to 16 over a period of 3 years in one or more of a range of fields, including teaching, youth work, education welfare service, health, social services.
  • Experience of problem solving using a range of appropriate strategies.
  • Experience of organising an event for a group of people.
  • Experience of leading a team.
  • Experience of target setting in order to raise achievement at all levels including monitoring and evaluation.
  • An understanding of issues related to the disadvantaged sections of the community.
    A professional qualification in working with young people or related field.

ABILITIES AND ATTITUDES

  • Ability to prioritise own workload, manage time and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to engage constructively with and relate to, a wide range of young people and their families/carers.
  • Experience of using e-mail, WP packages, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Ability to work effectively with, and command the confidence and respect of, students, parents, teaching staff, senior managers within the school and external agencies.
  • Ability to work effectively and network with a wide range of support services in order to build detailed knowledge of the specialist support services available.
  • A commitment to improving life choices and learning opportunities of young people.
  • Ability to work independently (with appropriate supervision and advice) and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills both written and spoken.
  • A willingness to participate in appropriate in-service training and professional development.
  • A sense of humour.
  • Ability to be flexible – responding to the changing demands of the role in the context of the needs of the school.
    Knowledge of a range of special support services.
Responsibilities

LINE MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTABILITY:

Under the line-management supervision of a Deputy Headteacher or Assistant Headteacher, to support, hold accountable, develop and lead the Tutor Team for the designated Year Group to ensure high standards of achievement and attainment and the well-being of staff and students. To provide regular progress updates to the Deputy Headteacher or Assistant Headteacher consistent with the procedures in the school’s self-evaluation policy.

1) PURPOSE OF THE POST:

  • To be responsible for the academic, personal and social achievement, progression and attainment of the designated year group.
  • To monitor, evaluate and review standards, efficiency and effectiveness of all areas of the team’s work and ensure the implementation of Whole School Policies, supporting colleagues in their implementation.
