Torre Abbey is looking for an experienced Learning and Community Engagement Coordinator to support the lifelong learning education programme at Torre Abbey.
Torre Abbey is Torbay’s most historic building complex dating from 1196. A scheduled monument set within 17.8 acres of gardens and parkland. It’s an accredited museum owned by Torbay Council, home to a regionally important collection it’s been a centre of religious and artistic expression and hospitality for over 800 years. We are passionate about creating a universally welcoming environment and we work with a range of partners to develop an increasingly accessible offer for our local community.
What you’ll be doing: You will use your Learning and Community Engagement experience to deliver Torre Abbey’s life learning programme and ensure we reach all members of the local community. You will then use your excellent communication and engagement skills and your knowledge of the national curriculum to grow our current education & community engagement offer by delivering a series of creative education activities. Support & grow our current education membership offer. You will need to be organised with good attention to detail to manage several different engagement groups simultaneously whilst providing detailed evaluation and feedback from the activities. You will be part of the duty management team for Torre Abbey which will include regular weekend working and managing a wide variety of operational duties and issues.

THIS POSITION IS FOR A FIXED TERM OF 12 MONTHS FROM THE START DATE.

SKILLS

Essential:

  • Strong people skills enabling good relationships.
  • Organisational skills with good attention to detail and able to work on own initiative.
  • An understanding of the use of digital resources to deliver education programmes.

KNOWLEDGE

Essential:

  • Up to date knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum, GCSE and A Level criteria, vocational qualifications.
  • Knowledge and understanding of informal learning and its benefits for audiences across the life-course.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current thinking on learning, engagement and audience development in museums, galleries and cultural sectors.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

  • Previous experience of direct delivery of education sessions and events for a variety of audiences/learners.
  • Experience of generating income for education services through charged sessions, grants and/or sponsorship to ensure services are deliverable and sustainable.
  • Experience of working in partnership with creative organisations, community partners and education providers.
  • Educated to A level standard or equivalent in a relevant subject.
