DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

Michigan Dining comprises eighteen on-campus cafes and markets, nine residential dining halls, a line of Blue to Go foods, the Campus Bakeshop, and the Michigan Catering unit. Our 500 professional and 1,300 student employees are committed to creative, healthy, and nutritious foods, international cuisines, and sustainability throughout all dining operations.

POSITION SUMMARY:

You will oversee all onboarding programs, safety training, and related departmental policies to maintain training compliance for all Dining student staff. With support, you will develop methods for reviewing training needs and tracking requirements. In partnership with Learning & Development leadership, you will ensure compliance with all required training for all student staff. Additionally, you will coordinate centralized and in-unit staff training efforts, review the effectiveness of training programs relative to learning outcomes, and help develop new approaches. You will report to MDining’s Learning & Development Director and work in a hybrid capacity, working 3 days onsite in Ann Arbor and 2 days remotely.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university majoring in business, instructional design, human resources, organizational development, education, or hospitality.
  • At least 2 or more years of experience in training or instructional design roles.
  • Experience with facilitating and presenting.
  • Experience in content development, workforce development, and training needs analysis.
  • Experience in designing training materials, including manuals, presentations, and e-learning courses.
  • Experience in assessing and evaluating training needs and the effectiveness of programs.
  • Comfortable using digital tools and software for creating training content (e.g., PowerPoint, domiKNOW, Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline).
  • Familiarity with multimedia tools (video editing, graphic design software).
  • ServSafe certification within 6 months.
Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Develop and coordinate the implementation of workshops, activities and programs designed to complement students’ employment experience and promote students’ professional development in the workplace - now, as student staff - and later, in their professional careers. These programs will enhance student learning and personal development, giving students the ability to apply knowledge to practical problems and become responsible members of the workforce.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of a training curriculum targeted at students advancing to leadership positions, such as Student Coordinators and Student Managers.
  • Develop programs and resources to help dining managers create community, foster student development, help students feel competent in their jobs, connected to our organization and each other, and appreciated in the workplace.
  • Initiate programs designed to recruit, retain and recognize student staff.
  • Work with dining leadership to define required competencies and recommend appropriate student training plans.
  • Conduct analyses to identify training needs and develop a master student training and development plan and annual schedule.
  • Develop training guidelines, methods and tools to ensure consistent approaches to in-unit training for student staff.
  • Develop and implement student orientation and onboarding programs.
  • Conduct training sessions and train-the-trainer sessions for managers, chefs, students and others who are responsible for training delivery.
