Description
Learning Experience Consultant (Curriculum Design Specialist) Application Deadline: 5 December 2025 Department: Management Consultants Employment Type: Contract / Temp Location: Africa Reporting To: Head of People Description Allied Talent Partners (ATP), a Three Cairns Group initiative, is a mission-driven, not-for-profit talent marketplace focused on solving the human capital bottlenecks slowing down sustainable development efforts in emerging economies, with an initial focus on Africa. ATP connects vetted, experienced, context-relevant professionals to high-impact opportunities in energy access and sustainable development – strengthening local capacity and fuelling economic vitality. We specialize in fixed-term, deliverable-driven engagements – from interim leadership and generalist projects to niche technical expertise – handling project scoping, talent vetting and matching, contracting, payroll, and compliance so that our clients can focus on impact. High-Level Overview The Client is undertaking a major upgrade of its internal learning and development systems to better support the growth of its global, multi-office team. They require a 6–9 month consulting engagement with a Learning Experience Consultant / Curriculum Design Specialist to (i) reset their learning strategy, (ii) select and set up a fit-for-purpose Learning Management System (LMS), and (iii) design modern, high-impact learning journeys, with a particular focus on leadership and management development for mid-career professionals, rather than compliance or high-volume frontline training. The consultant will work closely with the Learning & People team (including senior leaders) to translate business needs and organizational priorities into structured, practical, and engaging learning programs for professionals across their global offices. The engagement has two distinct phases: 1. Setup / Design phase (primary focus of this brief): Diagnose current state (including the existing LMS, Engagedly, and current curriculum). Recommend and support selection of a new LMS and high-level configuration approach. Design priority learning journeys and associated content, with emphasis on leadership and management capability-building. 2. Execution / Operational phase (to be owned by a future internal hire): Once the strategy, LMS, and core curriculum are in place, a more junior, full-time L&D professional will be hired to run, maintain, and continuously improve the system and content. This role is ideal for a senior instructional designer or learning strategist with strong creative capacity, excellent business acumen, and experience working with professional/technical teams. Role and Responsibilities Role: Learning Experience Consultant (Curriculum Design Specialist) Direct Report: Head of People Candidates Required: 1 Key Deliverables: Learning Strategy & Needs Analysis Diagnose current learning environment (existing content, Engagedly (LMS), learner needs, capability gaps). Identify priority skills and leadership development needs across levels. Develop a clear, practical learning strategy and pathways aligned to business goals. LMS Review, Selection & Setup Evaluate Engagedly and alternative LMS options. Recommend the most suitable platform with clear rationale (costs, usability, scalability). Define high-level LMS structure (learning paths, user groups, tagging, reporting) and outline a migration approach. Curriculum & Content Design Curate and modernize existing content into coherent, high-quality learning journeys. (i.e. financial modelling, solar/technical content, leadership) Design priority new content - especially leadership and management modules for mid-career professionals. Produce templates, toolkits, facilitator materials, and learner resources that enable long-term sustainability. Pilot, Testing & Refinement Run pilot sessions (virtual or in-person) to validate new learning experiences. Collect feedback across user groups and refine content, pathways, and LMS setup. Handover & Capability Transfer Prepare a structured handover for the future internal L&D hire (documentation, operating rhythms, templates). Recommend a 12–24 month roadmap for continued development and maintenance. Requirements Experience Required: Proven experience designing curriculum and learning programs for professional and/or technical teams, ideally in consulting, investment, or other knowledge-intensive environments (not limited to entry-level or frontline training such as call centers or basic compliance). Demonstrated success translating business goals and capability gaps into structured, high-impact learning solutions, with a track record in leadership and management development for mid-career professionals. Experience collaborating effectively with subject matter experts and senior stakeholders across multiple functions and geographies. Strong portfolio of instructional design work showcasing strategy, creativity, and execution (e.g., example learning paths, course designs, toolkits). Experience working with LMS systems, including exposure to selecting, configuring, and/or migrating to new platforms Technical Requirements: Formal training or certification in instructional design, facilitation, or learning technologies (e.g., ATD, CPTD, CIPD L&D Pathways) [or equivalent practical experience]. Deep expertise in instructional design and adult-learning methodology, including blended and digital learning approaches. Strong content-development skills across multiple formats: slide decks, facilitator guides, learner workbooks, digital modules, and micro-learning assets. Hands-on proficiency with design and authoring tools (e.g., Adobe Suite, Figma, Articulate/Rise or similar). Demonstrated experience evaluating and selecting LMS platforms, and collaborating with technical colleagues or vendors on setup and configuration (full-scale technical implementation support can be provided by the Client or vendors as needed). Other Skills: Highly creative with strong conceptual-thinking skills and the ability to simplify complexity. Excellent communicator, able to synthesize ambiguity into clear, structured outputs and to “meet stakeholders where they are” when shaping scope and priorities. Strong project management and coordination capabilities; able to drive a multi-month, multi-workstream project with clear milestones and stakeholder updates. Experience working in global or multi-country organizations and comfort engaging virtually with colleagues across time zones. Familiarity with high-growth, mission-driven work environments. Collaborative, proactive, and comfortable working with senior leaders (C-level, Partners, Heads of Function). Comfortable advising on and co-creating a detailed Statement of Work (SOW), rather than relying on a fully fixed brief from day one. Working Arrangement Location: Comfortable working primarily virtually with occasional in-person sessions if mutually agreed (e.g., in Cape Town, Nairobi, London, Washington D.C. Travel: Occasional Travel Terms of agreement: Start Date: December 2025 Contracting Period: 6-9 Months
