JOB TITLE: SPORTS LEARNING MENTOR & DEPUTY WRAP AROUND MANAGER

Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 12:30pm – 5:30pm (Term Time). Holiday work is available Mon - Fri (Up to 37.5 hours per week).
Salary: £12.50 – £14.00 per hour (depending on experience and qualifications)
Location: Primarily South Bristol and work in South Gloucestershire
Reports to: Senior Leadership Team / Wrap Around Care Manager
Contract: Term-time only, subject to satisfactory references and enhanced DBS check

JOB SUMMARY

This is a dual-role position that combines responsibilities as a Sports Learning Mentor during school hours and a Deputy Manager for the school’s after-school wrap around care programme, The Nest.

  • 12:30 – 3:30pm: You will work as a Sports Learning Mentor, supporting the physical, social, and emotional development of primary-aged pupils through school sports-based mentoring and structured physical activities.
  • 3:30 – 5:30pm: You will act as the Deputy Manager of The Nest Wrap Around Care, helping to deliver engaging after-school activities and ensuring a safe, creative, and supportive environment for children aged 5–11.

Responsibilities

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: SPORTS LEARNING MENTOR (12:30 – 3:30PM)

  • Use sport and physical activity as a tool for engagement, mentoring, and promoting positive behaviour.
  • Deliver structured sports and physical activities in small groups or on a 1:1 basis.
  • Support students’ social, emotional, and behavioural development within the school environment.
  • Act as a positive role model and motivator for pupils aged 5–11, helping them set and achieve personal goals.
  • Promote healthy lifestyle habits and teamwork through physical education.
  • Work in various environments including classrooms, intervention rooms, and playgrounds.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and communicate effectively with staff.
  • Be flexible to work in different schools or settings (occasionally supporting children aged up to 16).

TASKS & DUTIES

  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with children, families and other team members.
  • To maintain children’s safety and well being at all times
  • To take any action required to ensure the safety and welfare of children and to report any concern immediately to the club manager.
  • To ensure that the play environment, including equipment and resources, is prepared and ready for the arrival of children.
  • To support individual children and assess their development through play.
  • To enable child-centered play in a structured and relaxed environment maintaining overall quality of care, supporting children to engage in a range of play opportunities allowing for safe risks and challenges.
  • To use observation and reflective practice to contribute to planning and evaluation in the setting.
  • To support and develop a play environment which is inclusive for all and recognises and encourages diversity.
  • To keep records as required, e.g. accident/ incident forms, learning diaries and observations.
  • To work within agreed policies and procedures at all times.
  • Manage and coordinate a small team of staff.
  • To attend relevant meetings and identified training.
  • Help to organise food, shopping and resources for the club.
  • Prepare registers, keep records and other admin duties.
  • To undertake any other duties as reasonably directed by the Manager or Directors.

Data Protection and Safeguarding:

  • Work within the requirements of Data Protection at all times
  • Understand your responsibilities in relation to Safeguarding and child protection and how to highlight an issue / concerns
  • Remain vigilant to ensure all students are protected from potential harm General
  • The post-holder will be expected to undertake any appropriate training provided by Swift Sports Coaching to assist them in carrying out any of the above duties.
  • The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the protection of children and young people, as appropriate, in accordance with any agreed policies and/or guidelines, reporting any issues or concerns to their immediate line manager.
  • The post-holder will be required to promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the work place. To include ensuring that the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act, COSHH, and all other mandatory regulations are adhered to
  • An Enhanced Disclosure with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) will be undertaken before an appointment can be confirmed.
