Description Learning Specialist Salary: $26.00 - $27.00/hour Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time Department: Training & Development Reports to: Director, Training & Development About the Role What is a Learning Specialist? The Learning Specialist is dedicated to delivering high-quality, engaging training that empowers 2-1-1 San Diego staff to provide exceptional customer service. This role combines training facilitation with instructional design support, with a focus on creating a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that supports each team member’s growth. Working closely with the Learning Experience Manager and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), the Learning Specialist helps develop and refine training solutions that promote a positive employee experience and align with 2-1-1’s mission and values. What You’ll Do As a key member of our team, you will: Training Facilitation Training Delivery: Leads training sessions that are adaptable, inclusive, and interactive, encouraging active participation and providing a safe space for learning and growth. Tailors facilitation methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and fosters an environment where each participant feels valued. Onboarding and Refresher Training: Guides new staff through a comprehensive onboarding process, collaborating with SMEs across departments to ensure new hires feel supported and prepared. Leads refresher courses to reinforce knowledge and instill confidence in all team members. Session Coordination: Coordinates all logistics for training sessions, including scheduling, participant needs, and resource allocation, working closely with the Workforce Manager and other stakeholders to ensure smooth execution. Feedback and Improvement: Gathers participant feedback during dry runs and pilot sessions to continuously enhance the learning experience and ensure training is practical, relevant, and easy to apply in real scenarios. Instructional Design and Curriculum Development Content Development: Works with SMEs to create accessible and engaging training content, gathering essential information, visuals, case studies, and other resources that add real-world context and relevance to learning. Process and Workflow Documentation: Develops clear, user-friendly documentation of processes and workflows that supports team members in doing their best work. Identifying Training Needs: Uses Quality Assurance data and stakeholder feedback to identify knowledge and skills gaps, adjusting curricula to meet evolving needs and support individual and team growth. Collaborative Design: Partners with the Learning Technology Specialist to design e-learning modules on key topics, ensuring that learning materials are updated and accessible for all team members. Curriculum Support and Continuous Improvement Skills and Knowledge Identification: Identifies essential skills and knowledge areas that support team members’ success, proactively sourcing content to help each team member grow and feel equipped to excel in their role. Content Curation: Sources and curates training materials from both internal and external sources, incorporating diverse perspectives to build comprehensive curricula that resonate with and inspire staff. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Communication, or a related field, or equivalent experience. 2-3 years of experience in training facilitation, instructional design, or a related role, ideally within a contact center or customer service environment. Proficiency in instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE) and adult learning principles for developing effective training solutions. Strong understanding of contact center work, including call flow processes, best practices, and knowledge of social services. Presentation and Facilitation Skills: Skilled in delivering engaging, effective presentations to diverse audiences. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal abilities for collaborating with Subject Matter Experts, leadership, and peers. Project management and time management skills to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, meeting competing deadlines effectively. Strong computer skills: Proficient in MS PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook, with additional proficiency in instructional design tools (e.g., Articulate, Adobe Captivate) and LMS platforms (e.g., Cornerstone, Moodle); experience with iSpring is a bonus. Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accurate records, prioritize tasks, and adapt to feedback for continuous improvement. Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
