This is an excellent opportunity for an outstanding candidate to join our hard working team here at St Thomas’ CE Primary School.
St Thomas’ CE Primary School are seeking a compassionate, proactive and skilled SEND Teaching Assistant to join our inclusive and nurturing primary school. This role involves working closely with a small group of Key Stage 1 children who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). You’ll play a vital role in supporting their developmentparticularly in communication and language, social interaction, and emotional wellbeing.
The purpose of this post is to provide effective support for a child in KS1, as well as covering lunchtime duties.
Key Responsibilities
Provide tailored support to children with autism and other SEND profiles, in line with EHCP targets
Facilitate engaging activities that promote communication, language development, and relationship-building
Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to deliver high-quality provision
Uphold safeguarding policies and ensure a safe, structured environment for all pupils
Contribute to planning, monitoring progress, and adapting strategies to meet individual needs
Build trusting relationships with children, families, and the wider school team
What We’re Looking For
Experience supporting children with autism and/or complex SEND needs
Understanding of EHCPs and how to implement targeted provision
Strong communication skills and a nurturing, patient approach
Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and commitment to child protection
Ability to work flexibly, creatively, and with genuine empathy
