Job Title: Learning Support Assistant
Location: Middlesbrough College Main Campus, TS2 1AD
Department: Additional Learning Support
Reporting to: ALS Team Leader
Salary: MC Teaching Support, Scale 4 Points 18-19, £19,727 - £20,628 per annum (actual salary)
Contractual hours: 37 hours per week, 38 weeks
Basis: Term Term only
Pension: Local Government Pension Scheme

We’re looking for a compassionate and proactive Learning Support Assistant to join our Outstanding-rated High Needs provision at Middlesbrough College. Reporting to the SEN Team Leader, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality support to students with diverse needs, ensuring their individual requirements are met throughout their time at college. This includes assisting in classroom activities, supporting personalised learning plans, and fostering an inclusive learning environment. If you have experience supporting learners with disabilities or additional needs, excellent communication skills, and a genuine passion for education, we’d love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:

  • Provide high quality learning support to ensure all aspects of the students’ requirements for support are met whilst they are in college.
  • Demonstrate high levels of ambition for students within target setting and everyday practice.
  • Work effectively with teaching staff, cross college colleagues and outside agencies to ensure provision is of the highest standard and that practices implemented are in line with college policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate progression Studies staff in ensuring all department’s learning environments are conducive to learning and inviting to students.
  • Assist students to develop independent learning and study skills, including managing their behaviour, time, and work.
  • Provide assistance to students in the use of educational aids and personal equipment provided by the college or outside bodies.
  • Support with the facilitation of learning for small groups or full groups for short periods of time.
  • Support with the behaviour management of an individual or groups of students if required.
  • Liaise with teaching staff, other educational organisations, and cross college colleagues to contribute to a successful transition, initial target setting and specific strategies for individual learners.
