THE SCHOOL

The School of Computing and Digital Technologies is a large and vibrant school engaged in taught programs, research and innovation, and knowledge exchange. All our UG and PG programs are underpinned by project-based learning, which facilitates embedding industry experience across all the programs. The school is home to the multi-disciplinary team that composes the Smart Interactive Technologies lab, which focuses on innovative research and developments investigating all the aspects of modelling and applying physical and intelligent systems, which coexist harmoniously.

The School of Computing and Digital Technologies is in the top ten biggest computing departments in the UK, with more than 2,000 students and nearly 100 staff. Our size means we can cover a lot of ground. We teach topics including:

Our School is located right at the heart of Sheffield city centre, putting you right in the middle of this industry. Sheffield is home to a thriving digital and tech industry, employing over 21,000 people and generating billions of pounds in the region.
We are home to world-class games developer Sumo Digital, cloud computing giant WANdisco, broadband provider PlusNet, online publishing house Twinkl, the National Videogame Museum and the British Games Institute, among many others. Alongside our many connections with digital and tech businesses, we conduct our own work in industry. Steel Minions is our commercial games development studio, where students create and publish their own games on the PlayStation store. We are also home to the Centre of Excellence in Terrorism, Resilience, Intelligence and Organised Crime (CENTRIC), working with government, police, and private companies to increase our security.
Our students also work on live projects with businesses as part of their course, so there are plenty of opportunities to collaborate and set projects with industry, from Sheffield’s many IT firms to the biggest names in computing. It is not just the students who will be building networks and furnishing their CVs.

We are seeking an outstanding individual to make a strong academic contribution within the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI), with teaching in an HEI, research or recent industrial experience in this area.
We would be happy to accept applications from those with experience in developing or applying artificial intelligence in natural language processing, deep neural networks, generative AI, machine learning, computer vision, or those with substantial experience in applying AI to data analytics, business and management, or other disciplines.
You will join a large and vibrant School of Computing and Digital Technologies that is engaged in both teaching and research. The teaching and research activities in Computing are consistent with the University aims of being the leading applied university in the UK and to deliver practical knowledge, skills and solutions that meet the needs of employers and society.

• Developing engaging teaching and assessment material in the area, and delivering to undergraduate and postgraduate classes, face to face, and possibly through distance learning.
• Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
• Contributing to enhancing and improving the course management, student wellbeing and satisfaction, the teaching syllabus and related research activities.
• Setting assessments, marking student work, and reporting on students’ progress, as well as providing timely feedback.
• Contributing to School research activities by publishing high-quality outputs in an appropriate specialist area, applying for funding, and undertaking knowledge transfer projects.
