GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • To commit to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults
  • To participate in the College’s Performance Management Scheme and attend such training events as are necessary to enable him/her to carry out the duties of the job description.
  • To continually improve teaching, learning and assessment through proactive CPD and sharing best practice.
  • To actively participate in the College’s Quality System, including quality improvement strategies and initiatives.
  • To undertake such other duties as may be assigned commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post.
  • To take reasonable care for the health and safety of him/her and for others affected by his/her work.
  • To actively support College Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity policies.
  • To operate/conduct all HR tasks and functions within the principles of GDPR.

TEACHING QUALIFICATION

  • Applicants are required to hold an appropriate teaching qualification or be willing to undertake and gain the Certificate in Education and Training within 2 years of their appointment. Successful applicants will be required to attend the course on-site as the College delivers the course in-house.
  • Please note – whilst obtaining a teaching qualification is a contractual requirement, the College reviews its CPD budget on an annual basis regarding availability of funds, and cannot therefore guarantee that newly appointed staff will receive either part or full funding for the course fees. However, student loan facilities are available.

VALIDATION OF QUALIFICATIONS

  • The College will undertake qualification validation by writing to the appropriate educational institute. Only those qualifications which are essential for the post will be followed up.

AIM AND PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The purpose of the role is to deliver high quality teaching and learning by providing students with a planned learning experience and to complete all the necessary administrative duties associated with the teaching role.

KEY ROLES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Planning and preparation Plan and prepare, in accordance with the requirements of the curriculum, by:
  • producing and maintaining schemes of work and outlines of work
  • preparing lesson plans with clear aims
  • preparing appropriate resources

Delivery Deliver effective programmes of learning, through efficient classroom management, including:

  • promotion of learning in a stimulating context.
  • ensuring all classroom activities are conducted in a safe manner with appropriate use of safety equipment/clothing.
  • established strategies for managing lateness.
  • use of information Learning Technology (ILT) where appropriate.
  • consulting and liaising with other members of the course team to ensure effective delivery of the agreed subject area.

Assessment and verificationMarking students’ work in timely manner and providing feedback to learners, including:

  • Advising students on targets, progress and individual learning plans.
  • Operating to agreed marking schemes
  • Setting and assessing work of the students in relation to curriculum criteria and providing opportunities for student feedback.
  • Where necessary, acting as an assessor.
  • If appropriate, acting as an internal verifier.

Associated administrative dutiesComplete and maintain accurate and effective systems of administration, including:

  • ensuring that students are enrolled
  • maintaining accurate and up to date registers
  • making appropriate referrals to College services
  • identifying and reporting non attendances
  • referring matters to the CRQ Leader or CRQ Manager
  • registering students for external awards, if appropriate, under the supervision of the CRQ Leader or CRQ Manager
  • ensuring that all work is marked and appropriate feedback given within set times

Curriculum and other developmentUndertake continuous professional development in accordance with professional development policy, including:

  • Undertaking subject specific updating and development in order to be able to teach in the curriculum area
  • Undertaking other development in liaison with the CRQ Leader or CRQ Manager
  • Undertaking curriculum updating in line with awarding body requirements
  • Providing a general contribution to the curriculum development process
  • Attending and participating in course team, programme area and College meetings as required.
  • Attending conferences, courses and meetings to update expertise and knowledge.

Student support Provide support for students, to ensure the best possible satisfaction, attendance and achievement levels, including:

  • Acting as a personal tutor for a group of students
  • Supporting students in Functional skills (inexperienced staff will be given training and support)
  • Referring students to the Student Welfare or Career Guidance Team as appropriate.
  • Liaising with Personal Tutors or other staff on student issues, which may need further investigation/action.
