RELEASE DATE:

Tuesday 27 May 2025
The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnologies (CEB) is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Biochemical Engineering / Biotechnology. As part of the School of Engineering and Innovation within the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS), this role presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to our vibrant academic community.
CEB is internationally recognised for its world-class research, outstanding graduates, and strong record of graduate employability. The department benefits from a close and productive relationship between chemical engineering and chemistry in both teaching and research. We are proud that our undergraduate programmes are ranked 3rd in the UK for Chemical Engineering (Guardian University Guide 2024).

Our core research strengths include Bioenergy and Bioproducts, Advanced Materials, and Catalysis, supported by two leading EPS Research Institutes:

  • The Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute (EBRI), located in state-of-the-art on-campus facilities, which focuses on biomass, bioenergy, biotechnology and catalysis, driving innovation towards a more sustainable future.
  • The Aston Institute for Membrane Excellence (AIME), which delivers cutting-edge multidisciplinary research in bioinspired membranes, computational membrane science, structural biology, and sustainable polymers.

We are seeking candidates with a first degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering or Industrial Biotechnology. You should demonstrate a strong potential for publishing in internationally recognised journals and securing external research funding.
We are particularly interested in candidates with ability to teach subjects in biotechnology and biochemical engineering, such as bioprocess engineering, downstream bioprocessing, biocatalysis, biopharmaceutical manufacturing, environmental and/or industrial biotechnology, bioinformatics and biomaterials in our current and future BEng/MEng/MSc programmes.
