SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE SUMMARY:

  • A PhD in city planning or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in and passion for the delivery of high-quality city planning-related curriculum and program material.
  • A critical interest in urban infrastructure planning and policy (including transportation policy)
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and online delivery methods.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry or experience of work-integrated learning, including the ability to work with industry partners
  • Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
  • A track record of significant involvement with the profession and/or industry

    Responsibilities

    WHY YOUR ROLE MATTERS:

    As the Lecturer, you’ll carry out activities to develop your scholarly research and professional activities both nationally and internationally and contribute significantly to achieving the teaching and service missions of the School and Faculty. In terms of specialisations, we particularly welcome applications from scholars with research expertise in urban infrastructure planning and policy (including a critical interest in transportation policy), and the ability to help deliver our accredited city planning degree programs.
    The role of Lecturer reports to Head of School and has no direct reports.

    RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARY:

    • Deliver and assess undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supporting student learning in line with UNSW policy.
    • Design engaging learning activities, resources, and assessments across a range of delivery modes.
    • Continuously develop and apply a clear teaching philosophy that inspires student learning and progression.
    • Trial and develop innovative approaches to teaching and learning, with guidance from senior academics.
    • Manage course administration as Course Authority, ensuring academic quality and compliance.
    • Engage in individual and collaborative research, contributing to disciplinary knowledge and scholarly impact.
    • Participate in the development of competitive research funding applications under the guidance of senior colleagues.
    • Supervise Honours, Masters, and Higher Degree Research students, and support the development of emerging academics.
