Responsibilities

THE ROLE

The School of Education is seeking to appoint a capable and organised colleague to make a contribution to our work in Post Graduate Certificate in Modern Foreign Language education. This is a 0.4 FTE, fixed term cover post until the 31st July 2026, located on Pathway Three and will be appointed as Profile b (Lecturer, grade J) of the University’s Academic Pathways.
The successful candidate will join an established teaching team and contribute to the teaching of the Post Graduate Certificate in Education in Modern Foreign Language course, providing personal tutoring of student teachers, undertaking school visits and conducting interviews of prospective students for the following years intake. As well as enabling student teachers to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) through school-based practice, the PGCE provides students with a theoretical grounding in MFL education that draws on a rich range of perspectives. The programme promotes criticality, and reflective practice as a means of developing confident, creative and highly competent secondary (11-18) teachers.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

The role-holder will be required to contribute to teaching on the MFL PGCE and will complement the expertise of existing staff. We would be particularly interested to hear from applicants with recent classroom experience. Acting as personal tutor to a given number of student teachers throughout the year conducting tutorials, school visits, assignment support, reference writing, etc and providing effective pastoral support referring students on for help and/or guidance as necessary. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the desire and capacity to play a full and active part in the life of the School.
