Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is a globally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. Recently ranked in the top 5.3% of universities in the world, we are proud of the work we do and the impact this has on the people who need our help most. Headquartered in the heart of Liverpool, with colleagues working all around the world, we are on a mission to improve health outcomes in disadvantaged populations globally, through partnership in research and education.
We are seeking an academic with expertise in ethics and research management to support and develop cross-programme education at LSTM. The successful candidate will work closely with academic colleagues in the Faculty of Education, as well as more widely across LSTM and partnerships, to enhance dissertation and project processes across our degree programmes. They will also lead on Masters’ research ethics review procedures, ensuring rigorous and effective governance of student research.
The postholder will have experience in higher education, particularly in low-resource settings, and demonstrate a commitment to student-centred, research-informed teaching. This role provides an exciting opportunity to inspire students and shape the future of research ethics and dissertation processes at LSTM.

Responsibilities
  • Leading the enhancement of dissertation/project processes across all degree programmes in line with LSTM’s vision and mission.
  • Leading Masters’ research ethics review processes, chairing the Masters Research Ethics Panels.
  • Developing the dissertation/project elements of LSTM academic programmes, working closely with colleagues to build research capacity and capability in the student population.
  • Ensuring the sustainability and scalability of LSTM’s approach to dissertations/projects by developing innovative supervision methods and expanding the supervisory pool.
  • Ensuring dissertation/project design and delivery meet LSTM’s quality standards and lead on accreditation and monitoring processes.
  • Teaching research ethics principles and processes across Masters programmes, including leading the online dissertation module.
  • Working closely with LSTM’s Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) team to embed technological innovation in curriculum development.
  • Contributing to the development of the educational research evidence base to support educational interventions in line with LSTM’s mission and strategy.
  • Contributing to networking and joint initiatives with partner organisations, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, to enhance educational programme delivery.
