ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning is currently seeking a Lecturer in Urban Design (Practice Based Education) to join its dynamic and innovative team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work alongside world-class researchers and educators in a stimulating academic environment. Your expertise will help shape the future of urban design, fostering the development of sustainable and vibrant urban spaces.
Our Discipline of Urbanism is concerned with the design, characteristics and processes of urbanism and the policy and planning solutions proposed to create better cities. We embrace an integrated and multidisciplinary approach to the theory, policy and design of how we make and shape cities. We have strong research concentrations in the fields of housing, smart cities, and place. Our academics teach into undergraduate and postgraduate programs on urbanism, urban and regional planning, and urban design.
Education-focused roles are a specialised category of academic engagement reserved for talented educators with a passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, pedagogical practice and design. The successful candidate will dedicate the majority of their academic workload allocation to education and educational development. We also highly value recognised expertise in higher education pedagogy, or the willingness to undertake additional development through for example completion of the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Higher Education) or comparable recognition (e.g. obtaining FHEA status).
The successful candidate will contribute to the school’s vibrant urban culture. We are seeking candidates who deploy innovative teaching practices and deliver engaging learning experiences to prepare students for entry into professional environments.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • co-ordinate and teach units across the urbanism suite of programs
  • provide educational expertise across the pedagogies of urban design
  • contribute to the governance of the discipline, School and University.
