Responsibilities

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS:

UNSW Canberra is seeking a Lecturer in International and Political Studies to join the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. This role is ideal for a dynamic academic with a passion for teaching and research in politics, international relations, or a related field. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality education, advancing the School’s research profile, and contributing to a vibrant academic community.
This genuinely balanced role offers lower teaching loads relative to other universities, giving you dedicated time to pursue impactful research. You’ll contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching—approximately half of your teaching will be at each level—with a mix of on-campus delivery and online postgraduate engagement.
The School values collaboration, collegiality, and a team-player mindset. We’re looking for someone who thrives in a supportive academic environment, is comfortable pitching in to help colleagues, and is committed to delivering high-quality, student-focused education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver engaging and effective teaching in politics and international relations, particularly at the undergraduate level.
  • Design and develop innovative learning activities and assessments.
  • Conduct high-quality research and contribute to the School’s research output and impact.
  • Supervise research students and contribute to academic mentoring.
  • Participate in School and Faculty committees and contribute to academic administration.
  • Maintain professional development in pedagogy and disciplinary knowledge.

UNSW is committed to helping staff balance work-life responsibilities, by providing access to high-quality services, facilities, and flexible work and leave arrangements.

  • Flexible working options
  • Additional three days leave during December festive period
  • Career development opportunities
  • Up to 50% discount on UNSW courses
  • 17% superannuation contributions and salary sacrifice options
  • Free gym access
  • A university-wide focus on wellbeing and inclusio
