Faculty of Science | School of the Environment Part-time (60%) fixed-term position for 5 years Base salary will be in the range $117,120.53 – $138,769.70 plus 17% super (Academic Level B) Based at our St Lucia Campus About This Opportunity This is an exciting opportunity for a Teaching-Focused Lecturer to make a meaningful impact in the University of Queensland School of the Environment by leading course coordination and delivering high-quality international teaching programs. You will play a key role in shaping innovative, field-based learning experiences for undergraduate and international students, working in partnership with leading institutions such as Stanford University and the University of California. In this role, you will collaborate closely with academic and professional colleagues to maintain excellence in teaching, enhance program delivery, and continuously improve the student experience. You will have the opportunity to champion practical, hands-on learning, support diverse student cohorts, and contribute to the development of engaging, globally connected programs that reflect UQ’s commitment to innovation, student success, and real-world impact. Key responsibilities will include: Teaching: Deliver high-quality, field-based and classroom teaching across undergraduate and international programs; coordinate courses, design assessments, develop innovative, research-informed curriculum, and provide comprehensive student support. Research: Maintain engagement with current research in marine ecology and related disciplines to inform teaching, enhance student learning, and contribute to research-informed learning experiences. Field Operations and Safety: Lead field teams, manage logistics, conduct risk assessments, implement WHS-compliant safety strategies, and mentor staff and students in field protocols. Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate leadership and collaboration, support equity, diversity, and inclusion, contribute to School and International Programs initiatives, foster external partnerships, and mentor teaching staff. About You We are seeking a PhD-qualified marine scientist with expertise in marine ecology, conservation, or coastal ecology, and proven experience in high-quality teaching across lectures, practicals, and field-based programs. You will have strong field leadership, organisational, and risk-management skills, with the ability to support and engage diverse international student cohorts. Experience in research-informed teaching, curriculum design, mentoring staff, and collaborating with international partners is highly valued. Highly desirable attributes include innovative teaching approaches, providing student wellbeing support in field or residential settings, and experience engaging with Traditional Owners in on-Country teaching and research activities.
