Sociology, Gender Studies and Criminology is a vibrant multidisciplinary Programme, forming the largest academic unit in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Otago. To build on our success, we are seeking to appoint a Lecturer to join our team in February 2026.

Expertise in any of the following areas is desired:
We welcome applications from candidates with a demonstrated focus on criminology and criminal justice. The successful candidate will teach into our Criminology curriculum and contribute to the wider programme. Upon commencement of the position, they will be expected to contribute to several of the following areas of our curriculum:
In time, the candidate will be encouraged to develop new undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the field of critical criminology.
In this role, they will be encouraged to develop and maintain a programme of research and publication. To contribute to the strong postgraduate research culture in our Programme, and will be expected to supervise postgraduate student dissertations and theses. In addition, the candidate will be expected to undertake service work with the Programme, School, University and wider communities.
