[What the role is] Lecturer / Senior Lecturer (Digital Solutions) [What you will be working on] This position is responsible for supporting, operating, and advancing the makerspace as a hub for hands-on learning, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This role requires a highly adaptable individual with broad technical expertise, a strong design and making mindset, and a demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. The successful candidate will work closely with students, educators, startup teams, and community members to transform ideas into functional prototypes, foster technical skill development, and cultivate a culture of experimentation, safety, and continuous learning. The key responsibilities are as follows: Design, Fabrication & Prototyping Support Provide technical guidance in design, fabrication, and prototyping across multiple disciplines Support projects involving product design and fabrication, digital computing, and rapid prototyping Assist users in refining ideas into feasible designs and functional solutions Diagnose and resolve technical and design challenges using structured problem-solving approaches Education, Training & Community Engagement Develop and deliver workshops, training sessions, and demonstrations for diverse audiences Mentor students, early-stage startup teams, and community members with varying levels of experience Collaborate with faculty, educators, founders, and partners to support curricular and extracurricular initiatives Contribute to outreach, events, and programs that promote maker culture and innovation Makerspace+ Operations & Safety Oversee daily operation of the makerspace, ensuring safe, effective, and equitable access to tools and equipment Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot makerspace equipment, including digital fabrication and electronics tools Develop and enforce safety protocols, training materials, and standard operating procedures Maintain an organized, inclusive, and professional makerspace environment AI & Emerging Technology Integration Explore and integrate AI tools and workflows into makerspace activities, design processes, and prototyping efforts Support users in leveraging AI for ideation, design optimization, automation, and data-driven decision-making Stay current with developments in AI, digital fabrication, and creative technologies relevant to education and innovation [What we are looking for] Education & Experience · Qualification in Design, Engineering, Computer Science, Architecture, Education Technology, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience · At least 5 years of experience working in a makerspace, fabrication lab, innovation hub, startup environment, or educational setting is a plus Technical & Professional Competencies · Broad, multidisciplinary technical skill set with hands-on making experience · Proficiency in at least one CAD or 3D modeling platform · Familiarity with digital fabrication tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters etc · Exposure to programming or scripting languages · Demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning, or AI-assisted design tools · Product/Industrial Design is a big plus Core Skills and Attributes · Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities · Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences · Effective organizational and documentation skills · Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative environment · Commitment to inclusive, ethical, and responsible technology use · Demonstrates curiosity across disciplines rather than narrow specialization · Values learning through experimentation and iteration · Approaches complex challenges with creativity and structure · Views artificial intelligence as an enabling tool for education and innovation · Is committed to empowering others through access to tools, knowledge, and mentorship http://jobs.careers.gov.sg The Singapore Public Service plays a key role in the economic growth, progress and stability of Singapore by formulating and implementing government policies, as well as providing key public services.
