Department/ Unit: Department of Sociology Closing date: Until the post is filled Founded in 1963, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a forward-looking comprehensive research university with a global vision and a mission to combine tradition with modernity, and to bring together China and the West. The Department of Sociology has a diverse international community, featuring academic staff and postgraduate students from six continents and fourteen countries over the past five years. In recent years, the Department has gained significant recognition in academic circles, ranking 18th globally in the 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject. This achievement reaffirms its leadership position and highlights its commitment to academic excellence and impactful research. The Department of Sociology is now inviting applications for a post of Lecturer. Applicants should have (i) a doctoral degree in sociology; (ii) relevant teaching experience; and (iii) demonstrated potential for effective teaching (at the undergraduate and Master programme level) in digital society and artificial intelligence, and/or sociology of media and culture. Preference will be given to applicants with teaching expertise in the following areas: sociology of technology, sociology of work and organisations, media and society, sociological theory, or a broad range of subfields. The appointee is expected to also participate/provide service in departmental teaching development, community liaison, and other academic activities. The appointment will be made on a contract basis for one to two years, targeted to start in August 2026 or as soon as practicable thereafter, renewable subject to performance and mutual agreement. Responsibilities
