    This posting establishes a pool of candidates to fill temporary, non-tenure track lecturer positions to teach one or more undergraduate level courses as needed in the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering and Management Program on a part-time semester-by-semester basis for AY25/26. Courses will vary from term to term and may include required courses or technical electives such as: Construction Engineering, Construction Equipment & Heavy Civil, Field Engineering & Management, Construction Safety, Sustainable Construction, or Building Technologies.
    This position is paid on a per-course basis. Assignments are dependent upon student enrollments and are paid on a per course basis. There are no travel and relocation expenses available.

APPLICANTS MUST MEET MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT THE TIME OF HIRE.

  • A Master of Science in a related field is required for teaching undergraduate level courses. A combination of a Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of directly related experience may be substituted for the Master’s degree.
  • A PhD in Civil Engineering or fields related to construction is required for teaching graduate level courses. A combination of a Master’s degree and 20 years of directly related experience may be substituted for the PhD.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION TO POSSESS (PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Candidates with research or industrial experience in related discipline or teaching experience in a higher education environment are preferred.
  • A professional engineering license is preferred.

  • Ability to integrate academic knowledge and current field practices into the classroom.
  • Ability to clearly explain complex concepts.
  • Ability to maintain an engaging, productive classroom with a diverse range of students.
  • Ability to effectively use technology in the classroom.

MENTAL, PHYSICAL, AND/OR ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The ability to lecture for full class periods, utilize white boards or similar communication methods, and ability to oversee hands-on activities.

Responsibilities
  • Teach one to three classes as assigned per term.
  • Prepare for each class session and deliver balanced, rigorous lessons via Canvas and Zoom in accordance with prescribed curricular objectives and outcomes.
  • Hold weekly office hours as appropriate per course allocation.
  • Assess student progress according to curricular objectives and adhere to program policies.
  • Record attendance and grades online and be accessible for communication with students.
