ABOUT THE BUSINESS UNIT:

An exciting opportunity to join a high-performing legal team at the centre of government, which advises on a variety of commercial and regulatory legal matters across the justice system.
The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is seeking to fill 2 VPS4 Legal Adviser positions.
The Office of the General Counsel is responsible for providing in-house legal services across the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) and to the Attorney-General, as First Law Officer, and other DJCS portfolio Ministers.
The Commercial & Regulatory team provides legal support to DJCS’ operations, programs and enabling functions, including a wide range of investigations, disputes and litigation. The team’s work spans procurement, infrastructure, IT, construction, employment and OHS matters, integrity body investigations, inquiries, and FOI litigation and privacy matters.

Responsibilities

In the role of the Legal Adviser, Commercial & Regulatory, some of your duties will include:

  • Providing solutions-based legal advice on issues relevant to the government, Ministers and the department, both individually and as part of a team of solicitors
  • Managing multiple complex and sensitive commercial and regulatory matters for various clients
  • Undertaking legal research and analysis on complex legal matters with outstanding commercial/regulatory and drafting skills.
