Description

Perfect for students undertaking the penultimate year of a law or justice related degree (e.g. criminology), this is an opportunity to experience a compelling side of the legal profession outside private practice. This program is also a pathway into our graduate program for those who are recommended.
The department’s interns will gain exposure to policy development, legal advice and high-profile public litigation, legislation creation and cabinet processes. Your contribution as an intern will aid in the development of advice provided to the Attorney-General and other justice ministers and contribute to exciting civil and criminal law reforms and policy projects.
You will be rewarded with a competative intern salary ($60,295) and a chance to learn about government law creation from the inside.

To be eligible for the program you must:

  • ; be an Australian citizen, Permanent Resident of Australia or a New Zealand citizen.
  • ; be in your penultimate (second last) year of a law qualification (either undergraduate degree or Juris Doctor/masters) or justice-related qualification (e.g. criminology).
  • ; be available to commence work on Monday 24 November 2025 - Friday 27 February 2026

Our intern recruitment process:

  • ; Stage 1: Complete online application form and upload cover letter and resume. Provide a cover letter addressing what attracted you to the role, relevant skills and experience and your potential interest in a career in Government (1 page maximum).
  • ; Stage 2: Behavioural interview.
  • ; Stage 3: Pre-employment checks - the successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include national police checks and misconduct screening.
  • ; Stage 4: Job offer.

Applications close at midnight, Sunday 13 July 2025.
