Description JOB TITLE: Legal Assistant ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT: Administration/Indirect Costs SUPERVISOR: Tribal Attorney FLSA: Exempt SALARY RANGE: $36,000 to $80,000 **ALL FULL TIME POSITIONS: In addition to your pay, your salary also includes Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance. The Biweekly deduction from employee paycheck is $40.00 for Employee Only, $95.00 Employee plus Children, $120.00 Employee plus Spouse, and $140.00 Employee plus family. ** JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to provide clerical, administrative, and legal research support for the tribal attorney and others as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Maintains a current docket of all pending litigation and other legal matters including status of dispositions, depositions, court and pleading deadlines, and communications for the tribal attorney’s office. Drafts letters, memos, reports, contracts, agreements, and various other legal correspondence and documents. Drafts pleadings and other court filing documents. Coordinates with the Tribal Attorney to schedule legal, litigation, and other deadlines, and meeting dates. Arranges meetings as assigned. Conducts research on assigned legal issues and reports findings in a clear and concise manner. Being decisive in implementing plans developed by the Tribal Attorney which are necessary for the administration of the Tribal Attorney’s office. ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Perform other duties and projects as required by management. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to research various legal issues. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to work well with others, including professional staff. Good organization and analytical skills. Ability to use word processing and spreadsheets and other ordinary applications used by legal offices. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR CONSIDERATION: Five (5) years or more experience in an office environment. One (1) year working in a legal environment as a legal or administrative assistant. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time. The ability to do repetitive work at the computer is required. Stretching, bending, stooping, kneeling and some lifting may be required.
