Description

Our client is looking for two Legal Assistants to join their Vancouver office, to aid a group of legal professionals with a primary focus on Aboriginal/Indigenous law. The successful candidates ideally will have experience in supporting corporate and/or litigation practices. The ideal candidates will be professional, well spoken, helpful, resourceful, have strong attention to detail, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, and value strong working relationships with colleagues and clients. These are immediate openings located in Vancouver BC.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of three years’ previous experience as a Legal Assistant ideally both in Corporate and/or Litigation
  • Successful completion of a related post-secondary Legal Assistant or Paralegal program
  • Thorough knowledge, understanding and ability to apply working knowledge of the relevant corporate statutes
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal Law or legal issues would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the BC Rules of Civil Procedure would be considered an asset
  • Handle time pressure situations and stress of multiple demands
  • Microsoft 365 suite of applications
  • Corplink/MinuteBox, BC Online(and the new BC Registries system, Corporations Canada, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong verbal and written communication

Responsibilities

CORPORATE LEGAL ASSISTANT RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Independently manage the daily operation of a team of legal professionals who represent Indigenous clients with a primary practice focus on aboriginal, environmental, corporate and natural resources law.
  • Complex calendar management, including, overseeing meeting requests and coordinating with Indigenous clients with respect to booking calls and meetings
  • Prepare, edit, and complete all necessary correspondence, documentation, and related materials
  • Prepare documents for Regulatory Boards and Tribunals
  • Working with corporate legal documents (i.e. resolutions and related minute book materials, including share certificates and corporate information sheets) using established precedents
  • Generating directors’, officers’ and shareholders’ ledgers and registers within a corporate database
  • Preparation of standard correspondence as required using established precedents
  • Familiar with various government forms i.e., business name registrations, partnership registrations, limited partnership registrations, extra-provincial applications, notices of change and annual returns
  • Input and maintenance of corporate records and information in accordance with standard procedures within a corporate database
  • Minute book and general filing
  • Assist with file organization and general practice management (e.g., saving notes, file naming, etc.)
  • Booking travel and accommodation for client meetings as required
  • Communicate professionally with all internal and external clients, staff and lawyers’ offices
  • Handle daily administrative details
  • Manage duties related to accounting (dockets, bills, expenses, etc.)
  • Produce the highest quality of work
  • Accountable for all work assigned
  • Take initiative, Maintain Confidentiality

LITIGATION LEGAL ASSISTANT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Independently manage the daily operation of a team of lawyers who represent Indigenous clients with a primary practice focus in aboriginal, environmental, and natural resources law.
  • Complex calendar management, including, overseeing meeting requests and coordinating with Indigenous clients with respect to booking calls and meetings
  • Prepare, edit, and complete various types of correspondence, documentation, and related materials as well as documents for submission to Regulatory Boards and Tribunals
  • Assist with the finalization of various litigation materials for all court levels including BC courts, the Federal Court of Canada, and the Supreme Court of Canada
  • Prepare documents for Regulatory Boards and Tribunals
  • Assist with file organization and general practice management (e.g., saving notes, file naming, etc.)
  • Booking travel and accommodation for client meetings as required
  • Communicate professionally with all internal and external clients, court staff and lawyers’ offices
  • Handle daily administrative details
