JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Legal Assistant to join our firm. The ideal candidate will possess strong administrative skills and a solid understanding of legal procedures in the practice areas of family law, general litigation and personal injury. The ideal candidate must work well with others and be willing to share a semi private office with one other paralegal. This role involves supporting a senior lawyer with various tasks, including legal research, drafting documents, and managing case files.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven administrative experience in a legal setting is preferred
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proficiency in using Unity accounting, Court Services Online, BC Registry Services ( myLTSA , Business Registry and BC Online), and Canlii for legal research is a plus
  • Excellent writing skills for drafting clear and concise legal documents
  • Familiarity with family law and general litigation court application documentation preparation and knowledgeable as to filing deadlines and limitation dates
  • Ability to perform thorough proofreading to ensure accuracy in all written materials
  • Experience with data entry and maintaining detailed records is essential
  • Strong clerical skills, including filing and document management
  • Ability to conduct effective interviews while maintaining professionalism

Responsibilities
  • Assist senior counsel with legal research and case preparation
  • Draft and proofread legal documents, including pleadings
  • Manage case files ie. correspond with clients, insurance adjusters and opposing counsel at the direction of senior counsel and ensure all documentation is organized and up-to-date
  • Conduct interviews with clients to gather necessary information
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate records of case progress
  • Handle clerical tasks such as filing, scanning, and organizing documents
  • Maintain effective phone etiquette while communicating with clients, counsel, insurance adjusters and other parties
  • Support senior counsel by keeping track of limitation dates, filing deadlines and service of documents.
