Great Gulf is seeking a talented and experienced Legal Clerk to join our team in Toronto.
The Real Estate Legal Clerk is responsible for maintenance of bring forward system for key dates, maintaining electronic databases of legal files, maintaining and leading invoicing process, assisting with monthly budgeting and preparation of reports to Senior Executive teams, knowledge of property ownership, legal descriptions and title documents, preparing litigation reports and other key summaries. Also, they will provide support for various legal transactions, including acquisitions, financings and joint ventures, under the supervision of a lawyer.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience handling complex transactions in a multi-entity organization in the Real Estate industry
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in legal administration, law clerk or paralegal studies, or related field
  • Exceptional communication skills and emotional intelligence in knowing how to manage various personalities
  • Strong critical thinking ability and resourcefulness to troubleshoot problems and discover solutions
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office; online business and legal research tools
  • Strong proficiency in Teraview, including performing searches and acquiring relevant documentation and agreements from Teraview / the Land Registry system
  • Excellent time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Experience within the Construction industry is strongly preferred; Experience within the Real Estate industry is required
  • Experience with Visio and Excel is an asset

Responsibilities
  • Provide legal support on various transactions including setting up of data rooms; review of closing documents, closing checklists, compiling schedules and arranging signatories
  • Compile HCRA and Tarion documents as well as assist with standard purchase and sale agreements and condominium documents, as needed
  • Prepare summaries and/or charts of key agreements for use by legal and various business groups
  • Maintain litigation reporting chart
  • Assist with monthly budgeting and preparation of reports to Senior Executive teams
  • Assist with preparation of simple agreements, preparing notices, etc.
  • Open, close and update files; file accordingly
  • Handle department invoicing, tracking status, and preparing summaries and payment of same
  • Other administrative tasks and/or special projects, as needed
  • Draft and prepare simple legal agreements and notices, as required.
