The Opportunity
Cochlear has an opportunity for a Legal & Compliance Counsel based in our Sydney office. In this role, the successful candidate will provide timely and practical commercial legal advice and services to manage key legal rights and risks for Cochlear Limited’s day-to-day business operations. The position supports the Deputy General Counsel – R&D, IP & Global Strategic Marketing and other senior lawyers in handling major legal projects, key transactions, and compliance matters. This opportunity will be for a term of 6 months, with the possibility of extension or conversion to a permanent role depending on business needs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of business contracts, such as R&D collaboration agreements, consultancy agreements, confidentiality agreements and master services agreements.
  • Assisting in reviewing marketing and promotional materials.
  • Assisting in implementing legal compliance systems for global healthcare professional functions, which may include preparing and/or delivering training to the business
  • Providing legal and compliance advice on operational issues, including interactions with healthcare professionals
  • Supporting senior lawyers in managing regulatory investigations and/or litigation.
  • Contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Corporate Legal Team.

About You

Essential:

  • 3-6 years Post Admission Experience as a lawyer at a reputable top/mid-tier firm or top 200 ASX listed company
  • Training and experience in corporate and commercial legal work in Australia
  • Ability to perform general contract work, including drafting and negotiating a broad range of business agreements.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, negotiation, and research skills.
  • Commitment to high work standards.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and proactivity.
  • Ability to communicate with people at all levels in the organization.
