About the role This is a rare opportunity to step into a broad, hands-on Legal Counsel role supporting Chubb Life across a wide range of matters, from insurance and claims advice, through to commercial contracts, regulatory change, governance, and business partnering. Reporting to the General Counsel & Chief Risk Officer, you’ll provide pragmatic, solution-focused legal advice that helps the business move confidently and compliantly. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders and play an important role in managing legal and regulatory risk in a fast-moving environment. This role suits a self-starter who enjoys variety, takes ownership, and can balance priorities while delivering high-quality work. You’ll also have an interest in legal technology and AI tools, helping improve how the legal function supports the wider business. In this key role you’ll Provide high-quality legal advice across insurance, regulatory, compliance, and commercial matters (including policy interpretation and claim eligibility) Partner with the business on advertising, marketing, sales and distribution activity, ensuring strong regulatory and conduct outcomes Support commercial agreements and supplier contracts, including reinsurance-related matters where required Help manage customer disputes and escalated complaints, including Ombudsman-related matters, with timely, practical advice Drive improvement through legal technology, AI tools, templates and knowledge management to lift efficiency and consistency To be successful and grow in this role, you will ideally bring the following Minimum 3 years’ post-qualification experience and a current NZ Law Society Practising Certificate Working knowledge of relevant legislation (including FMCA, Fair Trading Act, Privacy Act, Companies Act, Commerce Act, Consumer Guarantees Act, and insurance regulation) Experience in insurance law or financial services law is highly desirable (but not essential) Strong analytical, advisory, writing and communication skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders A practical, organised and collaborative approach, with interest in using technology to improve legal service delivery We don’t expect you to have every skill listed.
