The Legal Counsel - Regulatory Strategy collaborates with the business on compliant product launches and iterations, contract negotiations and the implementation of new regulation into our existing product offerings with a focus on data-related and AI initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of and experience with relevant regulations, including competition law, consumer protection laws, AI regulations, online platform regulations, Digital Markets Act (DMA), Digital Services Act (DSA) and privacy laws
  • Previous experience in law firms, regulators and/or multinational companies working on complex regulatory matters across jurisdictions
  • Basic project management experience and commercial awareness
  • Ability to be proactive and creative, while understanding risk trade-offs
  • Ability to combine high quality legal work and organizational requirements (including budget setting)
  • Ability to translate legal requirements across different functions
  • Familiarity with data and AI rules applicable to online platforms.

  • Flexible and adaptable, able to work under pressure, and learn from mistakes
  • Ability to build constructive relationships across the business

Responsibilities

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Carrying out the evaluation of complex product design, including GenAI based initiatives, against global competition and consumer protection regulatory regimes as well as other relevant impactful regulations (e.g. platform-to-business regulations, geo-pricing regulations, the Digital Markets Act, the Digital Services Act and other equivalents).
  • Working on the implementation of new regulations in various areas of the business
  • Efficiently collecting and analysing input from business teams, partnering with other legal teams, and escalating any critically strategic decisions.
  • Presenting and providing recommendations on complex matters, advising Booking.com’s leadership team on legal risks and the appropriate trade offs
  • Actively maintaining legal budget for owned matters, ensuring external counsel are effectively managed
