Description

ABOUT US

Abergeldie is a majority locally owned contractor with over 30 years’ experience in Australia and New Zealand. We work on some of the region’s most challenging projects, spanning water and utilities, bridges, roads, rail, energy and community infrastructure. Our people share one purpose: delivering the complex infrastructure needed to build better communities.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Legal Counsel Contracts and Delivery to join Abergeldie’s in-house legal team, advising on major infrastructure projects across Australia and New Zealand. This role can be based in either our Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne offices with hybrid work options available.

You’ll step into a visible, career-defining role, partnering with executives, project leaders and clients to influence strategy and manage risk and help to deliver national significant projects. In this hands-on role you will;

  • Work across the full project lifecycle, from pre-contract through to delivery.
  • Advise on a broad range of contract models, including D&C, EPC, lump sum, target cost, cost reimbursable, alliances, frameworks and joint ventures.
  • Lead front-end contracting, including drafting, negotiation and risk assessment.
  • Provide clear, practical advice on contract risk, disputes and compliance to support decision-making.
  • Build strong relationships with executives, delivery teams, and clients to resolve issues effectively.
  • Help refine internal legal processes, policies and templates to improve efficiency and embed best practice.

Beyond projects you will also gain exposure to insurance, PPSA and governance matters, privacy and data protection, supplier and service agreements, and workplace relations issues. You’ll contribute to compliance frameworks such as modern slavery, anti-bribery and competition law, while supporting broader risk management initiatives across the business.
This breadth provides exposure rarely offered in private practice, giving you a genuine platform for progression towards senior leadership roles.
