THE OPPORTUNITY:

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, Executive Vice President and General Counsel, Postmedia’s Legal Department is looking for a talented commercial lawyer based in Toronto to join its close-knit and collaborative legal team. This position will primarily support Postmedia’s growing and dynamic digital business, supporting a variety of clients, including the digital product, information technology and content licensing teams along with the company’s recently established Generative AI Taskforce, which is helping the company navigate both the opportunities and risks presented by generative AI. This role provides the benefits of working within an established legal group with a broad range of resources and support while servicing progressive, fast-paced, start-up style business groups undertaking work in the digital space. As with all positions in the Legal Department, the position acts as an ambassador for the department throughout the organization, servicing a wide range of internal clients, including senior management. The role has exposure to diverse areas of law including: commercial, technology, generative AI, intellectual property, data and privacy/CASL, among others.

Responsibilities
  • Advise on the business and products as well as advising on commercial contracts.
  • Provide legal guidance to the broader digital business in all matters with key areas of focus being privacy and CASL, advertising and intellectual property matters.
  • Draft and negotiate digital media and information technology agreements (including SaaS and software license agreements) digital product agreements (including mobile and software development agreements), and other commercial agreements.
  • Collaborate, where appropriate, on matters such as researching and drafting corporate policies and mergers and acquisitions.
