Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Legal Counsel, you will provide strategic legal services that enable the AusNet Group to achieve its objectives. You’ll partner with the business to deliver pragmatic, ethical, and outcome-focused legal advice across a range of commercial and infrastructure projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide legal services for regulated and unregulated transmission and distribution connection services.
  • Draft, negotiate and execute contracts for energy infrastructure procurement and construction.
  • Advise on asset acquisitions to support transmission connection services.
  • Deliver legal support for distributed energy projects including metering, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and clean mobility.
  • Support leadership with legal advice on strategic and project-specific matters.
  • Develop and maintain legal templates and precedents.
  • Assist with claims management and resolution.
  • Brief and manage external legal advisors and associated costs.

  • A Bachelor of Laws and a current practising certificate in Victoria.
  • 5+ years’ legal experience (in-house or private practice).
  • Proven track record of delivering legal support in complex commercial environments, preferably within the construction or energy sectors.
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical mindset.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • A collaborative and professional approach to stakeholder engagement.
  • High levels of self-motivation, accountability, and autonomy.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results under pressure
