WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We currently have a vacancy for a UK qualified and experienced Lawyer to join our Legal Department as a Legal Counsel Internal Control. As an in-house Counsel, you will be responsible for providing advice, guidance and support to the European President’s Office (EPO) and to the various Toshiba Group Companies within the EMEA region.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to work closely with a broad range of stakeholders, developing strong business relationships and working as a true business partner within one of the world’s leading technology companies.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED

  • Experienced UK-qualified solicitor with around 1 2 years’ PQE experience gained in the UK at a reputable firm or in-house
  • Strategically and commercially aware.
  • Knowledge of risk management frameworks and methodologies
  • Comprehensive range of recent, practical experience, whilst playing a leading role in delivering advice, in areas of law including some (if not all) of the following:
  • Ethics and Compliance activities;
  • A wide range of commercial contracts, e.g. supply, distribution, services (including IT/business process outsourcing), e-commerce, manufacturing, franchising, agency and software development.
  • Strong drafting, communication, stakeholder management, organisation, influencing and persuading skills essential.
  • Ability to question intelligently, challenge rigorously and recommend with sound business judgement a course of action to a stakeholder.
  • Key behaviours - self-motivated, proactive, optimistic, energetic, resilient, effective at prioritisation and able to deal with multiple matters at the same time.
  • Good experience of coordinating the provision of advice and the production of complex and interrelated legal agreements and documentation.
  • Effective time management, including an ability to remain calm when under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • An innovative mind-set (supporting the use of technology to improve service delivery).
  • Must be able to deliver robust and appropriate legal advice and exercise sound judgement when consulting on difficult issues.
  • Enthusiastic team player with the ability to integrate with new teams (and cross-location) quickly.
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and pragmatically.
  • Ability to build strong client relationships, with significant experience of working with demanding clients across a wide spectrum of size and activities.
  • Relationship management skills, with the ability to manage client/stakeholder expectations.
  • Project management skills, including planning and prioritising work, meeting deadlines and monitoring your own.
  • Ability to get up to speed quickly on specialised areas of law and be keen to continue developing legal skills and engaging in new areas of work.

Responsibilities
  • Your role will included planning, designing and implement risk policies and processes. You are required to support with the development of risk models and operational risk, assure controls are operating effectively, and provide research and analytical support.
  • You’ll identify and assess threats to an organisation, put plans in place if things go wrong and decide how to avoid, reduce or transfer risk;
  • Risk reporting tailored to the relevant audience. (Educating the EPO office members and the Steering Committee about the most significant risks to the business; ensuring business heads understand the risks that might affect their departments;
  • Delivering and taking responsibility for legal service, consistently producing high quality work, advise, demonstrating technical competence and insights.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with Toshiba Group of Companies.
  • Management and successful delivery of technically complex and demanding projects, ensuring technical legal excellence and practical / business driven approach is taken.
  • Supporting lines of business and functions in implementing compliance strategy across Toshiba in EMEA.
  • Perform risk assessment: Analysing current risks and identifying potential risks that may affect the company;
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts with customers, suppliers and key commercial partners.
  • Providing practical, business-focussed advice and solutions to our business stakeholders, taking a risk-aware, not risk-averse approach.
  • Act as a trusted partner to provide strategic, pragmatic guidance and advice to stakeholders across the business on legal issues and risks, approval and governance processes, company policies and business strategy
  • Ensuring compliance with legislation and regulations: ensuring agreements which Toshiba enters into do not breach relevant legislation.
