We’re looking for a Legal Counsel to join our in-house Legal team in Mourant Governance Services.
You’ll join our growing team and business, working closely with our General Counsel on an interesting and diverse legal workload covering all of our locations.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for a lawyer with significant post-qualification experience, ideally in a commercial law firm or in-house legal term. Corporate / funds law experience or prior in-house legal experience (particularly if gained within a regulated environment) is advantageous.

CGI and/or STEP qualifications are advantageous. You will be supported to achieve such qualifications if you wish to do so.

  • Enthusiastic, willing to learn and keen to expand your comfort zone.
  • Ability to rapidly build close working relationships.
  • A self-starter, proactive and the ability to manage and take ownership of your own workload.
  • An approachable, calm and confident manner.
  • Highly organised and deadline orientated with completer/finisher skills.
  • Able to handle the pressure of prioritising competing demands (with guidance) in a fast paced working environment.
  • Diligent with strong attention to detail and excellent communication (written and verbal) and listening skills.
  • A trustworthy person who is able to maintain high levels of confidentiality and discretion.
  • A passion for technology and always looking for new and innovative ways of doing things (for example, coding and automation).

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our in-house legal function provides first class legal advice and support to the 25+ companies in the Mourant Governance Services group and the directors and senior management of those companies. The workload is diverse and covers all our locations.

Risk (in conjunction with the Mourant CRCO & other responsible officers)

  • Maintain best practice in legal, reputational and operational risk management in MourantGS.
  • Identify, analyse and propose mitigation for legal, reputational and operational risks arising from MourantGS client mandates.
  • Support the ongoing development of a strong compliance culture and assist client facing teams in maintaining confidentiality and legal privilege where appropriate.
