LEGAL COUNSEL

Department: Legal
Location: Maple Cross, Hybrid working 3 days office, 2 days home
Reporting to: Legal Affairs Manager

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum NQ-2 years PQE
  • Inhouse Legal experience for a commercial business beneficial.
  • Ability to draft and negotiate a range of commercial contracts and the confidence to work autonomously (where appropriate).
  • Excellent analytical, drafting and communication skills.
  • Ability to balance internal client expectations and commercial demands against any legal and regulatory risks.
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to continuously learn and improve.
  • Ability to work in an international environment with exposure to diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Capacity to manage high workload and prioritise tasks.
  • Resilience and ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work in a changing environment.

Responsibilities

OVERALL PURPOSE OF ROLE:

Legal Counsel (Controller) at Nissan Motor GB supports the Legal Affairs Manager on all legal matters of a broad range that concern Nissan GB and occasionally in Europe.
Working closely with other members of the legal team (including outside of Nissan GB) as well as stakeholders from business divisions such as Purchasing, Finance, HR, Sales, Aftersales, Marketing, ND&CQ, Comms, Customs, IT/IS, Compliance and senior management.
Conducting legal analysis and risk assessments commercially and strategically.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To assist Legal Affairs Manager with ongoing legal work and responsibilities relating to Nissan Motor GB.
  • To manage the provision of timely and high-quality legal advice across a wide range of subjects to the business.
  • To draft, review and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts relating Nissan GB, which include (but not limited to): MOUs, Supplier Agreements for goods/ services, DPAs, Sponsorship/Partnership /Collaboration Agreements.
  • To cooperate within the broader legal team and provide local legal advice on regional projects.
  • To work on developing new templates, guidance and procedures.
  • To provide legal training to the organisation.
  • Work with the business on consumer rights and compliant advertising.
