    Role Description: Booking.com is currently looking for a Legal Counsel - FinTech Privacy to work in a team of dedicated lawyers and supporting privacy compliance analysts. The successful candidate will advise the business on a range of legal questions related to data protection and privacy to help make the right decisions to comply with all relevant data protection and privacy laws.
    This individual will work closely together with the Senior Counsels in the more complex matters, and will report into the Senior Managing Counsel.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • 3+ years’ experience in a top tier law firm, major corporation or financial institution in a role involving data protection, privacy compliance and data security;
  • An undergraduate degree and a legal professional qualification alongside a CIPP/E / CIPT (or other similar) certification is a plus;
  • A deep understanding of the GDPR / APAC / India data protection laws;
  • Experience with financial / banking products and regulatory developments in APAC / India;
  • The ability to quickly respond to issues at hand and able to prioritise effectively, with an entrepreneurial mindset and a “roll up sleeves” to get the job done;
  • Fluency in English with excellent communication skills, verbally, in writing and listening (other language skills are a plus).

Responsibilities

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Assessing data processing activities within proposed products and services, including but not limited to financial products;
  • Conducting Data Protection Risk Assessments and Data Protection Impact Assessments;
  • Providing (ad-hoc) legal advice for privacy and fintech related matters regionally, including disclosure requirements, data transfer mechanisms and the impact of marketing and consumer laws;
  • Keeping up with new developments in data protection and privacy laws globally;
  • Implementing and maintaining privacy policies and procedures;
  • Performing third party services risk assessments and negotiating data processing agreements and data protection issues within commercial contracts with group members or third parties;
  • Working closely with the Global Data Protection Officer, other Legal Counsels, Fintech, Risk & Compliance, Procurement, Security and other colleagues as well as outside counsels worldwide.
