Description:
DESCRIPTION
The Legal Counsel, Privacy, will serve as key personnel in the Legal Department and provide support to Kia Canada’s General Counsel and Legal Counsel.
This role would be suitable for a self-starter who is comfortable and confident in a fast-paced environment with excellent drafting skills. Privacy experience is required.
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION REQUIRED
- Called to the Ontario Bar and licensed to practice law in Ontario.
- 5+ years of post-call experience with a focus on privacy and commercial law, gained either in-house or through a law firm.
- Strong critical thinking skills to understand complex fact patterns, identify legal issues and risk and provide timely advice.
- Knowledge of privacy regulations in Canada.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Automotive Industry knowledge preferable.
- Bilingual in French and English is an asset.

Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain and improve data protection policies, procedures and training to remain compliant with legislative requirements.
- Act as the Privacy Officer for the Company, responding to consumer requests, complaints, inquiries, appeals and filing responses to privacy incidents/notifying regulatory authorities as required.
- Lead and conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) as required to mitigate potential risks associated with data processing activities.
- Provide strategic training and advice on data protection laws and regulations to the Business.
- Review and advise on data privacy requirements within contracts.
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements and related documents.
