ABOUT THE ROLE AND THE TEAM

Reporting to the Head of Sanctions, Ethics & Compliance, you will be a part of the Sanctions, Ethics and Compliance responsible for company’s global sanctions, ethics and compliance programme.
As Legal Counsel – Sanctions, Ethics and Compliance, you will have a diverse role with a global remit. You will be accountable for:

- Trade sanctions and export control compliance: (70% of time). This is to support SITA global business in complying with sanctions and export controls laws and regulations, conduct due diligence, work on licenses applications to the UK, US and EU authorities, work with external lawyers on more complex matters, provide advice and training to the business on the compliance programme and its application.
- Compliance support (investigations, anti-bribery, AML, due diligence, conflicts of interest, gifts and hospitality and other compliance matters): 30% of time. This is to support the Head of Sanctions, Ethics and Compliance or other members of the team in the application and continuous development of various elements of the ethics and compliance programme.
Your main contacts will include GEO Legal (customer-facing lawyers), Business Unit support lawyers, Procurement team, Data Privacy team, Finance & Treasury, Internal Audit, Local Sales, Logistics, Shareholder Relationship, Supply Chain team and external counsel where applicable.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Support the further development and maintenance of:
  • the existing sanctions and export control compliance programme; and
  • the existing general compliance programme - investigations, anti-bribery, AML, due diligence, conflicts of interest, gifts and hospitality and other compliance matters.
  • Support the continuing development of a corporate culture where ethical and compliant values-based behaviour is embraced by all employees, including compliance with the SITA Code of Conduct.
  • Support the design and implementation of adequate compliance policies, processes and procedures.
  • Support training of staff and prepare training material.
  • Support the assessment and actioning of relevant legal and regulatory requirements and changes in the regulations.
  • Support counterparty screening and conduct due diligence of future and existing vendors, customers, banks and other third parties.
  • Collaborate with other departments to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution. Participate in internal investigations.
  • Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, and support the development of those areas.
  • Support corrective action plans for the resolution of issues, and provide general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.
  • Support the Head of Sanctions, Ethics and Compliance for monitoring the performance of the Compliance Program.
