The Legal Division (LED) of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) supports the Authority in advancing its mission to develop and promote Singapore as a premier global hub port and an international maritime centre, and to advance and safeguard Singapore’s strategic maritime interests. Strategic projects that the LED supports include the development of the Tuas mega port, developing regulatory regimes for maritime services including bunkering, and digital port and marine services, and advancing the Maritime Singapore Green Initiative. The LED also plays a key role in giving effect to and ensuring compliance with Singapore’s international obligations under maritime treaties and conventions.

This pioneer project aims to enhance efficiency and ensure consistency and quality in the creation and evaluation of contracts within MPA, with potential application beyond. The selected candidates will be instrumental in establishing a database of high-quality contractual clauses, which will be used to train the AI model.

1. Provide legal expertise to support the development and training of an AI contract review and drafting system, including the identification and classification of high-quality contract clauses.
2. Work closely with a cross-functional AI development project team including data scientists and development engineers in an agile way, first to develop a database of clauses which will be used to train the AI model and later to develop and refine the product.
3. Monitor and evaluate the performance of the AI system in contract drafting and review tasks.
4. You may also be assigned advisory work relating generally to MPA’s functions and powers or drafting of contracts and legislation.

4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
5. A strong interest and/or experience in data science, and a passion for the use of technology in legal practice.
